Action of Bois Grenier

With the aim of diverting German troops away from Loos when the British attack went in there on 25th September 1915, there was an attack by 25 Brigade of 8th Division at Bois Grenier, just south of Armentières. Despite the bravery of the attacking troops, it was an unsuccessful venture and by the end of the day no ground had been won but 25 Brigade had suffered over 1300 casualties.

23 Brigade of 8th Division were in reserve for this attack and on 24th September, 2nd Middlesex had marched to Rouge-de-Bout where they dug shelter trenches but they did not save Private Morris who was killed the next day, probably by shell fire.
